Déjà vu week – Kuala Lumpur

A few weeks ago Jon Pinhorn, a dear friend from home and a fellow expat currently living in India, decided to pay me a visit for his holiday. Coming from the North Indian “dry state” of Ahmedabad, he was anxious to see some tropical islands and have his fill of alcohol. Therefore, when he asked for suggestions on places to visit, I immediately recommended visiting the island of Langkawi (famous for is duty free prices on alcohol) and a trip to Singapore.

Once he had arrived, we swiftly arranged to go to KL Central to visit the twin towers and see other such touristy places. Since most of our week would be spent away from KL, this was the best chance I had to show Jon around the Capital. However, after a few hours of sightseeing, he was exhausted (due to a dangerous mix of jet lag and tropical sun) and so we had to cut our tour short after seeing KLCC and Petaling Street.

After a brief siesta back home, I had arranged to head into Changkat, or as I like to call it – Sin Street, for a drink or two. Joined by a friend from work, the night progressed from a terrible start due to heavy rain at Jalan Alor (the main food street), and slowly improved with the drinks into an unforgettable night.

The next day was not pleasant. Not only did we have to nurse our sore heads, but also we had to trudge along to the airport once more to catch our flight to sunny sunny Langkawi.

As the flight took off, I realised that this was the best chance I would have to catch up on some sleep not knowing how the first night in Langkawi would be spent…
