Several months ago, a group of us at the office went out to visit the Lenggong World Heritage Site to the north in Perak for a competition entry. This was the archaeological site where the “Perak Man” was discovered. He is the oldest homo sapien skeleton found in this area, and something of a landmark discovery.
The competition was to design a new visitors centre for the site to accommodate the new influx of tourists destined to arrive to visit the “Perak Man”. After a lengthy presentation on the archaeological importance of the site, we were shown around the area and saw several excavation pits and highlighting certain caves where small groups of humans had once lived.
The entire day trip was immense fun and culminated in a visit to a beautiful cave entrance and further excavation pits.
On our way back from Lenggong, we stopped by at the town of Kuala Kangsar to visit a beautiful old Wooden Palace made in the style of the Malay Kampung houses and a Chinese temple built into a nearby cave.
We didn’t win the competition but we were shortlisted in the top 10. You can see our entry in the portfolio link above.
