Yogyakarta – Video III – Batik creation

This video was taken by my friend, of a woman at a local Batik Shop handcrafting the next roll. The utensil she uses holds a small thimble of liquid wax which pours slowly through the nib, just like a fountain pen. This slow process of drawing the entire pattern was amazing to witness, but also mind numbingly excruciating. The dedication and patience required to produce even a small amount of cloth is staggering.
